Samsung SMS-6100
The competition in the midrange segment is hotting up, with the SMS-6100 coming close on the heels of the Creative speaker set. This Samsung entry is a very powerful speaker set. It too is a three-piece speaker set, specified as a 5-inch foam-edged subwoofer coupled with two 3-inch full-range satellite units. With the subwoofer rated at 25 W and the two satellites rated at 7.5 W each, Samsung is definitely banking on sheer power to trash the competition. Frequency range of the subwoofer ranges from 50 Hz to 250 Hz, whereas the satellites range from 170 Hz to 20 KHz. Bass reproduction was great, but despite the unit weighing in at almost 3.5 kg, there was noticeable buzzing due to vibration of the unit. The minute the volume was increased to moderate levels, the power handling of the drives was less than adequate and this showed in the quality of output. Sound reproduction at low and medium volume was decent. For the price, this speaker set is good value for money.
